Dang wo wang xiang ni de shi hou
Shuli Huang has lived with his partner in Beijing for four years. They live in a world of young adults embracing the freedoms of mobility and of a life of artistic and personal affirmation. Armed with courage and a restless Super 8, the filmmaker offers a moving personal essay with a masterly aesthetic and great visual richness. Driven by the search for family acceptance, he talks to his mother, their conversations heard in voice-over. His subtle, affectionate depiction of her lies in contrast to her refusal to accept his way of life and sexual orientation, creating an irredeemable and painful family rift.
