العرش
Around the concrete columns of an unfinished building, Hamdeh and his trainees create a makeshift gym. The dystopian landscape is the canvas on which Amira Louadah constructs her powerful short, L’Arche. What first starts as a factual documentary, soon transforms into a philosophical exploration. The filmmaker reveals Algerian society’s past and present malaises by investigating existential issues around ideas of struggle, migration and land. The film culminates with a liturgical chant while the men train as they seek to defend themselves against an undefinable metaphysical evil that threatens them.
