Grief is an experience as universal as it is deeply personal. The void left behind when a loved one departs can never be filled, but it can be expressed, recounted, and shared through an artistic work like Strigov. Opening with the visual cues of a horror movie in found footage style, muddy black and white images are overlaid with a child’s voice murmuring in the darkness. The child, scared of the dark, seeks the comforting presence of their grandmother in the depths of the night to help them fall asleep. When night turns to day, the child attends their grandmother’s funeral. Her absence is as moving as the voice seeking comfort in the dark.
