Filmmaker Lessandro Sócrates built a trusting relationship with the community of nuns at l’Abbaye Sainte-Marie des Deux-Montagnes, whose life seems very austere. This film emphasizes the cloistered aspect of their lives through shots of the screen separating them from the altar and of the grille from visitors. Yet, a very different view of the women is shown in their daily lives and personal interactions, highlighting their love of life, art, music, detail and beauty. All this is carried by the tranquil harmony of their voices singing Gregorian hymns, which serve as a magnificent backdrop to this beautifully sensitive film.
