This unique film is a creative portrait of a South African woman in her fifties who wears many hats: that of a mother, a housekeeper, and a talented actor. Over 10 years, director and multidisciplinary artist Lindiwe Matshikiza worked closely with the protagonist and co-writer, Mothiba Grace Bapela. The result is a poetic and poignant story in which Bapela delivers a direct, first-person account of her painful past and her trying life as a Black woman from a deprived background. One Take Grace makes smart use of the power of performance and a polished sound design to highlight the visceral need to be heard to envisage a fresh start.
