Dreamlike landscapes accompany this lyrical tale of four protagonists whose contrasting aspirations represent different generations and realities in Armenia. Imposing symbols like Mount Ararat and Soviet-era buildings and interiors indirectly nourish the narrative, almost suggesting that this small South Caucasus nation eager for liberalism and progress is slow to leave its past. An impressive series of images marking the end of the film intricately weave the individuals’ dreams with that of the collective. Since dreams can also lead to disillusionment, are these final moments a herald of future detriment or hopeful change?
