Using carefully selected archival material and images shot on coloured film, Herbaria devises a surprising dialogue between cinema and botany. These two seemingly distant worlds allow the filmmaker (also an archivist and projectionist) to explore the material ephemerality, as well as the complex work involved in documenting and conserving plants and celluloid film. Enriched by expert opinions, including that of experimental film pioneer Narcisa Hirsch, this work enables a freely rigorous reflection on memory and preservation. Rich in information, Leandro Listori’s second feature is not didactic but expresses itself through the language of cinema.
