Inner Lines is a poignant historical account and a haunting reflection on the eternal recurrence of violence across time and space. Pierre-Yves Vandeweerd (Retrospective - RIDM 2016), in his political and poetic film shot in 16mm between Iraqi Kurdistan, Turkey and Nagorno-Karabakh, walks alongside the Yazidis and the Armenians, whose lives have been ravaged by wars and genocide. To bring their voices together under one great story, he links biblical narratives, off-camera testimonies and speeches with enigmatic sequences and powerful images. Through this process, he places humanity within these bleak landscapes inflamed by decades of inextinguishable inner sorrow.
