Chão
Active for nearly forty years, the Landless Workers’ Movement is one of the largest social movements in Brazil. Over four years, Landless closely follows the daily lives of activists during the occupation of a failing sugarcane factory in Brazil’s Central-West Region. This observational documentary conveys the sense of urgency and hope in fervent political activism, as well as the solidarity of family-run agriculture. Faced with the food-processing industry, endless legal disputes, and the imminent political criminalization of the movement, more than 600 families camp on the land, cultivating the soil and their dreams of a possible future.
