In La Belle Visite, Jean-François Caissy explores aging by shadowing the residents of an isolated retirement home in rural Quebec in a simple yet effective and beautiful way. As the seasons change on the shores of Chaleur Bay in Gaspésie, time appears to stand still as we are immersed in the residents’ daily routine. But what remains as the final breath nears? Like the Spanish poet Jorge Manrique said, “Our lives are rivers, gliding free to that unfathomed, boundless sea.”
