I saw Fausto on a Sunday afternoon in 2019. Some parts are fuzzy, but I distinctly remember leaving the theater, how I felt, and my state of mind: I felt wrapped up in a balm, a soft haze. I can’t provide an intellectual interpretation of Fausto and its many overlapping meanings. If I think of it, I have visions of an immense coastline facing the ocean at dusk or dawn, of veiled myths and tales, of conquest, of light and opacity in its telling—as if the Americas have been transformed into film. I've hoped for another chance to re-experience watching this film, and I invite others to notice the effect it imposes on its audience.
