Jacquelyn Mills (In the Waves, Best National Short- or Medium-Length Film, RIDM 2017) returns to the RIDM with an immersive documentary following self-taught naturalist, environmentalist, and artist Zoe Lucas. Since the 1970s, Lucas has been one of the few inhabitants of Sable Island, off the south coast of Nova Scotia, where she meticulously observes and catalogues the ecosystem threatened by human activity. Overflowing with creativity, this magnificent experimental documentary, shot on 16mm film, explores the natural cycles of this stunning landscape and the enormous archival work of its custodian. The result is a remarkably rich fusion of science and art.
