In northern France, young mother Chaylla is trying to leave a violent and toxic relationship, but is struggling with her partner’s influence and her desire to keep her family together, something she didn’t have as a child. Intelligently avoiding pathos, filmmakers Clara Teper and Paul Pirritano sensitively portray Chaylla’s strength and resilience, while highlighting the importance of the sisterhood she maintains with her mother-in-law and best friend. Through a skillful and respectful lens, this impactful feature hardly leaves Chaylla’s side, capturing her tenacity as she navigates a difficult, years-long path to justice and to rebuilding her identity.
